Great stuff can be tricky to cut but easy to apply and remove

This is great stuff. It's very easy to apply and the application process is very forgiving. Just clean your windows spray on a soap and water mixture peel the backing and apply. You can re-position it to get it just right and the use a credit card to get the water out from under the film.



It looks great. Very professional. And it's easy to remove.



It is rather tough to cut though. The roll is 36 x 72 and if you are cutting long pieces it can be tricky to get straight lines. I used a carpenter's T but I still messed up a bit.



The following comment is not about the product but about Amazon's packaging. I also didn't deduct stars for this:



The packaging is extremely wasteful. The roll itself is packaged in a rectangular plastic box but Amazon put that box in a massive box that could literally have held maybe 100 rolls. The box was stuffed with paper to take up the extra room.More detail ...

Great item can't beat the price!

I got these today and put them up about an hour ago - it took all of five minutes. I was debating whether to try them and to tell you the truth the review that made me decide to get them was the 1-star 'don't buy this product' review - it described exactly what they were and it sounded like they were exactly what I was looking for.

I live on a street just off of a major road in a very collegiate neighborhood. During the day I get a LOT of sun and at night there is a very bright streetlight just outside my window and it being a busy neighborhood there are usually fire trucks going up the street at night (those wacky college kids and their candles...) As I rent I didn't want anything too permanent and I wanted something easily replaceable and affordable in case of any problems that might spring up. I put these up behind my white roller shades and they're going to work fantastically - I can't wait for my day off when I can finally SLEEP through the morning!

They are heavy but flexible very thick paper thinner than oaktag/posterboard but very dense. The accordian pleat is very stylish. You raise and lower them by gathering the amount of shade you want to raise and clipping them with the plastic clips that are included in the box. To cut them don't use a knife - a simple pair of scissors works just fine as long as you don't try to cut the entire shade in one fell swoop.

The box of 6 shades was $30 with free super-saver shipping - at five bucks a pop they're well worth it (I certainly couldn't fold posterboard this accurately that's for sure!) My roomates will probably use a couple and again we have extras as well as the lengths cut off from the shades to use for something I'm sure.

They're probably not good if you want to raise and lower them often as I'm not sure how long the adhesive would hold but even so you could just get a roll of heavy duty double-stick should they come down.

I'm quite happy with these.



Edit: And now it's mid-March and I've had ZERO problems with these. I raise and lower them once daily and the adhesive has held just fine. "Sleeping In" is now my favorite (in)activity thanks to these.More detail ...

Great temporary fix

These were exactly what I thought an inexpensive fix to glaring sun. They are a bit floppy when clipped in the up position but they work wonderfully for those far and few between hot glaring sunny days here in Vermont. They are inexpensive and can replaced easily when damaged or dirty. I would like to suggest that they contain four clips instead of two so that some of the 'droop' can be eliminated.More detail ...

Absolutely beautiful for my needs

This product really gives the illusion of stained-glass in my kitchen window which looks out to a very white wall. It minimizes the glare while providing the illusion of natural outdoors. Friends and family have walked in my kitchen and not even noticed it because it looks so natural - and when I point it out to them they say how beautiful it is. I plan to order more in other patterns for other windows in my home. Also the photo posted online of this particular is washed out and does not do the product's natural jewel-toned colors justice.



NOTE: I suggest you create a slight beveled effect by leaving at least a quarter- to half-inch space between the film and the window panes on all sides .. that way you can still "see out" the window yet the pattern still looks seamless.More detail ...

Nice Sheers for the Price

Although the sheers state they are 116" W x 84" L I noticed they are approximately an inch longer than stated. Other than that they are very nice sheers. I wish they came in other colors but for the price they are nice. I needed something very full and this does seem to do the trick. Purchased 3 sets to cover 3 windows used all on one rod. Easy to install and looks attractive--Worth the money!

I purchased this window film for my back door that has 9 small panes of glass through which I could see my neighbor come and go from his front door. I wanted to make the window opaque without blocking the light and this worked perfectly! Much better than grandma-style curtains.



The word "film" is deceptive--this is a high quality thick material that feels like vinyl and is very easy to work with. I followed the installation directions on the package and it adhered to the window perfectly. None of the corners peeled up and no bubbles. Once the film was cut to the correct size the installation was very easy.



Other reviewers have said that this items is expensive but I found it to be far less expensive than traditional window treatments so I consider this an excellent value for the purpose. Highly recommended.More detail ...

A cheap and easy solution for blocking daylight.

If you're a nightshifter and you need to black out a bedroom in the daytime this is a cheap and easy solution. These DO block the light - only a sliver of it escapes from the sides (because have to be slightly less wide than the window if you ever plan to open them again) but this is easily solved by hanging a second shade OVER the casement if you don't have curtains.



They were far cheaper than blackout drapes and they look nice too. And they're lightweight enough that you could take one along when you travel ... I wish I'd had these on hand in a whole lot of hotels with fancy but worthless drapes.



There were six in the package which I mention because I asked Amazon's customer service how many were in the box and they had no idea.More detail ...

inexpensive gets the job done

I was a little disappointed that this shade does not actually "darken" my room but since I already have another window covering (standard mini-blinds) they do a sufficient job at further reducing the light that makes it into my room at night.



I didn't find the shade quite as easy to cut as some other reviewers indicated. (I used a standard serrated kitchen knife.) Because of this the edges of my shade are a little messy looking. Again this isn't a problem for my installation since the shade is simply hanging behind my blinds anyway. If I intended this shade to remain up long term as my principal window covering however I wouldn't be too thrilled by how cheap it all looks.



So my bottom line is that this is a good deal for the money as long as you know what you're getting.



EDIT ON 8/11/08:



I just wanted to add that only a couple of months after putting this shade up the "stickies" that are used to hold it up failed -- this despite me normally not even moving the shade up and down each day so the only force put on this shade most days was the weight of the shade itself. Very disappointing. I tried to find something to put and keep the shade back up and ended up just using a couple of nails so this thing would for sure stay put. I therefore would downgrade this to 3 stars.More detail ...

decent shade

I bought a couple of these for my 2 half-circle windows on the front of my house. Each room becomes warm in the summertime with the sun beating through the windows. This shade blocks the direct sunlight but will still let ambient light through which is fine for my needs. The rooms are much cooler now with this in place. The shades were easy to cut with a fine-toothed hacksaw. The only thing keeping me from scoring 5 out of 5 was the description indicating that the shade was made of vinyl and was washable. This is not the case or at least it's not the type of vinyl I was expecting. It's more like a sturdy paper and I am reluctant to wash it with water for fear of damaging the shade.More detail ...

Ahhhhhhh

I have purchased (and returned) at least 3 other curtains to various retailers that have advertised them to be "black-out" curtains. These are the real deal! The curtains truly block out the light very well. They are 100% polyester and the blue is a deep navy. They hang very well the wrinkles are slowly disappearing and they have a silky feel. They even come with tiebacks! I highly recommend them especially if you work the night shift or just like it dark for a good nap!



Just a follow up - we just got back from Vegas (May 2010) and our room darkening curtains in the hotel were not as DARK as the ones in our home bedroom! Still lovin' this purchase.More detail ...

Fit for the money?

Great idea Great setup with the holder and adhesive on the shade. My only dislike is the measuring system on the blind. First I measured the window and cut the blind exactly to my measurement -1/8 inch for clearance. Once installed I had 3/4" clearance at the top and 1-1/2" clearance at the sides letting in light. The moral is MEASURE THE WINDOW AND THE BLINDS WITH YOUR TAPE TO GET THE FIT YOU DESIRE. THE MEASUREMENT ON THE SHADE IS NOT EXACT or mine was not. But it looks great and really helps with the Temperature control.More detail ...
